The Role:

A Malton based electronics and mechanical business who have been the leaders in controls engineering for the subsea environment for the last 27 years are looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer to the team. With clients from Brazil to Aberdeen who are in the main Tier 1 contractors who supply to deep sea vessels, this is an opportunity to work with some of the most complex and bespoke ROV tooling systems that need to be able to operate at the depths of the ocean.

The client base requires high end controls and the highest level of design and service and as a result of the company’s success, they have begun to win business away from their core area of subsea controls and have developed a niche in offshore windfarms. The business has been able to enter the offshore windfarm market because of their ability to prove the quality, durability and simplicity of the systems they develop.

The role of a Mechanical Design Engineer within the business, is a vital role, as this will be the focal point for all things involved in 3D Cad. The business uses Solidworks, but are comfortable for the successful applicant to have worked with any serious 3D Cad package. This role would suit a hobbyist who is passionate about engineering but would not suit someone who purely wants to be doing new R&D and be sat behind a Cad station all day. This role is vast and varied and will involve new R&D and when it is new R&D the Mechanical Engineer will be involved from cradle to grave, however the role will also involve a lot variety, which will be working with test production, electronics and software, in a multi-disciplinary team of 7 engineers.

The business prides itself on being friendly, compassionate, profitable and stable, hence the majority of staff have been with the business for many years and the aim is for this position to again provide this level of stability.

The Mechanical Design engineer will be involved in the design and drawing of mechanical assemblies and development of specifications and hydraulic assemblies. The engineer will work on the specification of bought-in electronic, hydraulic, and mechanical components and drawing of electrical systems, wiring diagrams and block diagrams. You will also be able to identify and define design verification and validation activities creation and maintenance of Bill of Materials (parts lists) Production and maintenance of system design, manufacture, test documentation and manuals whilst working with Sales, Production and Test departments to ensure successful delivery. You will be tasked to identify opportunities for continual improvement and update existing documents and drawings as required whilst overseeing and co-ordinating the testing of new and existing equipment and systems.

This role is looking for some of the below skills, but the business is flexible and is really looking for a bright, talented, pleasant, and versatile Mechanical Engineer there is also the opportunity to work offshore if that does appeal to the right individual.

  • Design and drawing of mechanical assemblies and development of specifications
  • Design and drawing of hydraulic assemblies
  • Specification of bought-in electronic, hydraulic, and mechanical components
  • Drawing of electrical systems, wiring diagrams and block diagrams
  • Identify and define design verification and validation activities
  • Creation and maintenance of Bill of Materials (parts lists)
  • Production and maintenance of system design, manufacture, test documentation and manuals
  • Work with Sales, Production and Test departments to ensure successful delivery
  • Identify opportunities for continual improvement and update existing documents and drawings as required
  • Overseeing and co-ordinating the testing of new and existing equipment and systems
  • Liaising with customers to establish product requirements and ensuring finished product meets specification.
  • Any other activities as defined by the Design & Development Manager
  • Best Practice in accordance with ISO 9001: 2015 Quality Management / ISO 14001: 2015 Environment & ISO 45001:2018 Health and Safety Systems
