LOCATION OF WORK: Due to covid-19, you will be working remotely from home initially. Once things return to usual, you will work out of the Manchester office with flexibility offered around this.
An established electronics business based in Fairfield, East Manchester require an Embedded Software Engineer to join its R&D team.
This is the opportunity to join a successful and privately owned electronics business who do all R&D development and manufacturing out of its Manchester office, with the business having sales offices all over the world.
The business specialises in developing handheld measurement devices which are used in a wide range of commercial industry sectors.
You will be joining the business at an exciting time as you will be working on a major platform development for two new handheld devices.
The first device will have a 3.5-inch button interface display. The second device will have a 5-inch touchscreen display.
You will be tasked with doing the embedded firmware development and the GUI user interface design for both battery powered devices (the devices will be powered with double AA batteries).
In this role you will be developing RTOS based real time embedded C / C++ software for 32-bit ARM Cortex M4 Microcontrollers.
If you have experience developing software for low powered devices (which have sleep modes) this would be highly desirable.
Any experience working on products that use BLE or Bluetooth technology would be beneficial, as there is opportunity to work on some specific BLE/ Bluetooth task work if you wish.
This opportunity offers you the chance to work in a medium sized R&D team, where you will work closely with other Software Engineers, Electronics Engineers, Mechanical Engineers and Manufacturing.
You will work on projects from concept through to production, and there is opportunity to work on a wide range of device developments, as the company has a wide portfolio of existing devices which is only set to grow due to customer demand.
- Embedded C and C++
- Firmware and GUI development
- Microcontroller/ Microprocessor experience (8, 16, 32 bit)
- Understanding of electronics (i.e., confident interfacing to digital and analogue electronics)
- Communication protocol experience e.g. SPI, I2C, UARRT, USB, RFID, BLE
- ARM Cortex M3/4 microcontrollers, STM32, NXP iMX, TI MSP
- Developed software for low powered/ handheld devices
- BLE or Bluetooth experience
