Embedded Software Engineer, IEC 61851, EV Ready

RATE: £50-60 per hour

LOCATION OF WORK: Largely remote working. Only going to client site if essential

LOCATION OF OFFICE: London

CONTRACT LENGTH: 3 months initially

START DATE: asap

IR35 DETERMINATION: Outside of IR35

THE PROJECT:

An electronics business in London, who specialise in smart EV chargers for the automotive sector require an Embedded Software Engineer to join their team urgently. In this role you will be working closely with another Embedded Software Engineer.

Having won a huge order with a major automotive customer, they are required to make sure their embedded software complies to IEC 61851 and EV ready. These are two compliance standards that EV charging manufacturers must now comply to.

To meet these standards some changes are needed to the existing codebase.

Your role will be to work on the existing codebase and make the appropriate changes in order for the software to comply to the two standards.

If you are an Embedded Software Engineer who has IEC 61851 or EV ready experience this would be highly desirable.

Alternatively if you are an Embedded Software Engineer who is used to writing embedded software to safety critical coding standards (e.g. in Aerospace, Automotive, Defence, Medical, Oil+Gas) and would be confident getting up to speed with a new coding standard and implementing it then this role will be ideally suited.

The electric vehicle and ev charging sector is going through an incredibly exciting time, and is making a huge positive difference. Getting EV charging experience, and understanding the regulation standards will be highly desirable for future contract opportunities as this market is only going to grow.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Embedded C/ C++
  • RTOS/ Bare Metal
  • Proven experience writing software to safety critical coding standards e.g. MISRA, DO-178B, IEC 61508, 62304
  • Confident making changes to an existing codebase to ensure it complies to a regulatory standard
  • Comfortable working on a fast moving project with key delivery deadlines

DESIRABLE SKILLS:

Location of work: Fully Remote Role

The Role:

An SME sized medical device business, with a rich history and loyal customer base require an Embedded Software Engineer with C++ programming ability to join their growing software engineering team.

The company’s wearable device products are used by people all over the world, making a huge positive impact to the wellbeing and happiness of its customers. By becoming IoT enabled the performance of the companies’ devices will improve, as it will allow customers to get better and more insightful real-time information.

To be suitable for this role you should have worked on embedded systems and must be confident programming in C++ (ideally C++ 11, 14 or 17). You should also have experience developing on RTOS or Bare Metal.

If you have only programmed in Embedded C on RTOS/ Bare Metal, and C++ on Windows or Linux then this is fine. It’s having an understanding of developing for low power/ memory constrained devices that is important. Of course, if you have experience developing C++ on RTOS / BareMetal this would be highly desirable.

As the products you will be working on are classified as Medical Devices, they must meet Medical Device standards. Previous experience writing software to medical device standards such as IEC 62304 would be advantageous. Otherwise you should demonstrate ability to follow software coding guidelines, ideally for safety critical industries. Example standards could be MISRA, DO178B on other internal company guidelines.

This opportunity gives you the flexibility to work fully remotely, whilst working on super exciting project work, where you will play a key role developing brand new Wearable IoT Medical Devices, that make a huge positive difference to people’s livelihoods.

Skills and experience required:
