We are looking for a dynamic Lead Mechanical Engineer to take a central role in shaping the mechanical engineering direction of our cutting-edge electric drive systems. About the Role
As the senior figure in the mechanical engineering team, you will steer projects from early design concepts through to production readiness. You will be responsible for establishing and improving engineering processes, ensuring our designs are optimised for manufacture, reliability, and high-volume production.

Working closely with senior leadership, you will oversee workload planning, set technical priorities, and ensure that every project meets our standards for quality, timing, and budget. You will also act as a bridge between our internal teams and external suppliers, building strong relationships that help us bring new products to market smoothly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design of electric drive products, ensuring optimal performance and manufacturability.
  • Set and maintain engineering standards, processes, and documentation for mechanical development.
  • Oversee mechanical engineering activities to ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to specification.
  • Work closely with suppliers and manufacturing partners to move designs from prototype to mass production.
  • Guide and mentor the mechanical engineering team, driving performance and professional growth.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness across the business.
  • Support prototype builds, tooling, and testing activities to validate new designs.

What We’re Looking For

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (Chartered Engineer status an advantage).
  • Significant experience delivering high-volume, low-cost mechanical designs for challenging environments (automotive, agricultural, outdoor power equipment, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of electric drive technology and related systems.
  • Expertise in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD, plus knowledge of thermal and structural simulation tools.
  • Track record of successful leadership within engineering teams.
  • Deep knowledge of design for manufacture, production engineering, and quality standards.
  • Hands-on experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) and product lifecycle processes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and inspire others.
  • A problem solver with a continuous improvement mindset.

The Role:
