The Role:

We are working with a client who develop and maintain cutting-edge complex mission critical communications systems for harsh environment that ensure that complex issues that are faced in the real world which involve, sensors, acoustics, hydraulics, actuation systems and complex electronics and embedded systems are monitoring at peak levels. These systems also help to preserve life.

The business employ people who love solving complex technical challenges which are often bespoke and novel. The embedded software engineer will take part in the full product life cycle of this complex instrumentation, working from cradle to grave and having involvement in the entire design process as well as interaction with manufacturing. The chance to work on site with customers also adds to the breadth and variety of the role.

The team is small, friendly, enjoys working onsite the majority of the time, you can work from home one day per week, as long as it does not impact the business, and the offices have parking, are warm, welcoming and everyone has access to each other.

This opportunity is ideal for an electronics software engineer who wishes to have a real impact on the design and development of a product, you will have opportunity to speak to the customer to understand their requirements from concept through to manufacture.

When KO2 were on site with the client it was explained to us that an engineer was actually installing a product in Brazil he had designed from the embryonic stage and taken through to manufacture and customer deployment. If you want to truly own a project this is for you, engineers are totally autonomous and raise their own PO’s and acquire their own components and parts without the need for sign off.

When working on this instrumentation you will need the ability to

  • Write embedded software in C
  • Work with existing code bases to upgrade, enhance and optimise
  • Create embedded instrumentation electronics, including the chance to work with power and analogue and digital electronics.

  • Schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer

System Design Engineer

Position: Systems Design Engineer

Salary: Up to £60,000

Location of Work: Fully Remote

An electronics business who are leaders in the design and development of complex mission critical software, are looking for a systems design engineer to work on the “left hand side” of the V life cycle. The business are a multinational, with huge cash reserves, a strong order book and are looking to improve upon what was a very successful 2023 by adding to the Systems Design Team. The business is looking for the right talent, and as a result is more than happy to consider System Engineers who would like ‘fully remote working’.

The embedded software used in the businesses mission critical applications controls complex Bluetooth related applications, and their client portfolio is a who’s who of the worlds bluechip companies. You will be working with a hugely talented team of engineers who take great pride in their work and are all on the same goal of ensuring the company continues to deliver its goals and provides stable and enjoyable employment. The team you will work in is cross functional, and as a result the System Design Engineers role will be pivotal to ensuring that all the separate entities in the team are succeeding.

The System Design Engineer will be working on the left hand side of the V life cycle and as a result be responsible for working closely with customers, who will be some of the biggest companies in the world, whilst working as a product owner in a cross functional team. The System Engineer will need to have the ability to understand the customers technical requirements whilst designing and developing solutions from concept to launch, whilst designing solutions and formalised representations that meet the customer needs.

The knowledge of safety critical standards and functional safety standards will be key very much a nice to have, but one that would be appreciated by the business alongside the use of CAN tools such as CANoe and CANdela studio whilst delivering prototype to external and internal stakeholders.

The business will offer the Systems Design Engineer a salary of £40,000 – £60,000 plus bonus, pension and competitive package and fully remote working.

Electronics Engineer

Electronics Engineer with Test experience 

Location of work: 3 days onsite, 2 days remote
Rate: up to £50 per hour, outside IR35

The role: An SME electronics business requires an Electronics Engineer for an initial 3 month contract to work on an electronic controller and inverter development. The client is wanting to get the product into production and as such there is lots of integration, validation, verification, and certification task work to do. A 3rd party is building the end of line test jig. You will be responsible for communicating with the 3rd party and defining what the test jig needs to achieve. To do this you will be responsible for creating the test specification report and explaining what needs to be tested so the 3rd party can build a suitable test jig. You will be responsible for:

  • Validation, verification and certification tasks before the product goes into full production.
  • Defining what needs to be tested.
  • Working with a 3rd party company who are building the end of line test jig

Embedded Software Engineer

Role: Automotive Embedded C Software Engineer
Rate: up to £50 per hour, outside IR35
Location of work: Fully remote working
The Project:
An automotive electronics business based in the West Midlands requires an Embedded Software Engineer to join them for an initial 6-month contract that is likely to extend. This role can be performed fully remotely.
You will be working on the development of a charge controller which is used when charging an EV vehicle.
The ecu on a vehicle will communicate to the charging station which then sends a message to the charge controller. The charge controller controls the contactors. Because of high currents and voltages it will also measure temperature. If the temperature was to reach a dangerous level then everything cuts out and the contactors open again to ensure everything is cut. This product needs to be ASIL B functional safety rated.
This is an opportunity to join a project at the early stages of development on a newly formed team.
Experience required:

Compliance Engineer

Position- Compliance Engineer for consumer electronic products

Salary- up to £55,000

Location of client- Leeds city centre

Location of work- You can perform this role remotely or in the office

The role-

A growing electronics business in Leeds who design and manufacture their own products, as well as sell third party manufactured products require a Compliance Engineer to join their expanding team. In this role you will take ownership for all compliance related tasks for their electronic products.

The types of products you will be responsible for ensuring meet compliance and regulatory standards will be set top boxes, smart televisions, wifi equipment, routers, 4G mesh networks and devices used in retail.

To be suitable for this role you should be passionate about ensuring electronic devices meet and comply with international standards such as REACH, RoHS, CE, UK-CA, and that all necessary documentation and declaration of conformities (DoC’s) are in place.

Due to incoming changes to existing standards this will mean updating documentation and DoC’s to ensure the products comply to the latest standards. An example are changes being made to WiFi and IoT security standards.

Field Application Engineer

Job Title: Field Application Engineer

Location: Fully Remote Working

Salary: Up to £45,000 + Car, bonus, healthcare and more

The Role: A successful and growing electromechanical business that develops, manufactures and sells electromechanical components (e.g. connectors, switches, assembly products) is now looking for a Field Application Engineer. You will have electronics design knowledge and be comfortable interacting with non-technical customers and sales agents.  In this role you will be mainly working remotely and will be expected to travel throughout the southern region of England to various customer locations on a regular basis.

This role will be made up of 2 primary aspects:

  • You will be visiting electronic customers to understand and support their requirements, you will be responsible for advising which components would be suitable for their product design developments. This will mean visiting and speaking to customers as well and doing presentations from time-to-time.
  • You will be responsible for training a team of 5 to 6 sales engineers so that they have the technical acumen to have technical conversations with perspective customers, to help better understand their needs and make accurate recommendations.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Electronics design skills – educational or industrial experience
  • Fault-finding and trouble-shooting of PCB design related issues.
  • Knowledge of the electro-mechanical industry including use of materials, environmental effects and constraints
  • Strong communication and
  • Degree qualification in an Engineering related subject

  • Experience teaching or mentoring

Technical Author – Software

Role: Technical Author for a Software AI Control System

Rate: up to £50 per hour, inside IR35

Location of work: Fully Remote

Contract length: 6 months initially, with opportunity to extend

The Role: 

A leading software business who are pushing the edge with the revolution of AI are looking for an exceptional and self-motivated Technical Author to pull together all the information required to deliver a complex user manual. The Technical Author will need the ability to produce exceptional content, be from a technical background but most importantly be able to be bullish in their approach to obtaining information from a group that consists of 10 teams.

The content that needs to be written will not be provided to the individual on a plate and if the Technical Author cannot find the information required to create the content, the Technical Author will need to be able to fight the battle to gain the information. The release of the software is due in 2024 and as a result the teams will be focussed on delivery and obtaining the content and information will be a challenge, the Technical Author must be prepared to “ruffle feathers” speak with multiple stake holders, be happy not to hide behind team leaders and grasp all the key decision makers and pull the content together.

The Technical Author will be from a technical background and be able to work with teams located throughout Europe, we are not looking for a content writer, we are looking for an experienced Technical Author who is able to dig deep into technical minds and technical teams and create documentation in an environment that when the pressure is on for release date, could be frantic. The information will then be written into exceptional prose.

The best way to view this role is understanding 3 elements of technical authoring which are technical skills, writing skills and business skills, all 3 are needed combined with the diplomacy of working with those who do not necessarily want, or feel the need to provide the information needed to produce an exceptional technical document.
