Electronics Engineering Manager
Electronics Engineering Manager
Location: South Yorkshire
Salary: Up to £65,000 + Benefits
KO2 are partnering with a well-established UK electronics manufacturer to recruit a Hardware Engineering Manager at a pivotal point in the company’s growth.
Our client is known for designing and manufacturing reliable, high-volume electronic products, and is part of a larger international group. They are now entering a major period of product and technology renewal. Their next generation of products will combine proven hardware strengths with modern connected technologies, software and cloud services. This role sits at the heart of that change.
The Role
Reporting to the R&D Director, you will lead the Hardware Engineering function. You will own the timely delivery, technical quality and engineering integrity of all hardware development. You will lead a focused team made up of a Senior PCB Engineer, a Hardware Engineer and a Component Engineer. You will take products from concept through design, verification, compliance and into high-volume production.
This is a leadership role for someone who still enjoys getting hands-on. You will set direction and develop your team, and you will also roll up your sleeves when a complex technical problem needs solving.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Owning the team’s delivery against agreed milestones, with clear ownership, realistic commitments and estimates based on evidence
- Spotting technical and delivery risks early and acting to mitigate them
- Providing technical direction, and leading and challenging design decisions that balance performance, cost, time to market, compliance and manufacturability
- Leading hardware design reviews and maintaining strong engineering standards and documentation
- Making sure designs are robust and manufacturable (DFM), and working with QA, Production and Supply Chain to resolve quality issues
- Coaching and developing your team, running performance reviews and building a culture of ownership, pace and continuous improvement
- Working with Product Management to understand customer needs and the problem being solved
- Working as part of the R&D leadership team alongside Embedded Software, Systems Engineering, Validation, Programme Management and Product Management
- Acting as a point of contact for external compliance bodies, suppliers and wider group functions
What You’ll Bring
Essential:
- A degree in Electronic or Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline
- A strong background in electronic hardware development
- Circuit and PCB design experience covering analogue and digital circuitry, MCU-based products and power supplies
- Engineering leadership experience with a track record of delivering against project commitments
- Full product development lifecycle experience
- Excellent hands-on troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Strong project management, planning and prioritisation abilities
- Clear technical communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- A strong work ethic and self-motivation
Desirable:
- A Master’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years in a technical management or leadership role
- Experience with IoT or connected products
- A background in high-volume electronics manufacturing
- Experience with hardware integration testing methods
- Familiarity with CE compliance for wireless products, such as RED, EMC, RF exposure, relevant EN product standards, the Cyber Resilience Act and ISO 27001
- Knowledge of product lifecycle and obsolescence management
- Experience in a mature SME environment
Why Apply?
This is a chance to shape the next generation of products at an established manufacturer with real investment behind it. You will have genuine influence over how hardware engineering is done. It would suit an engineering leader with strong technical credibility and a bias for action, who enjoys developing people and seeing products move from concept into high-volume manufacture.
