R&D Engineer – Newcastle – Up to £65,000

KO2’s client, a leader in the robotics and automation sector with years of experience, is seeking an innovative R&D Engineer to join their team in Newcastle. Situated on the banks of the Tyne, this exciting role offers the opportunity to work on groundbreaking designs that enhance vehicle performance and protection in challenging environments.

As an R&D Engineer, you’ll thrive in a multidisciplinary team, taking projects from concept through to development. You will create functional and structural solutions for armoured vehicles, conceptualizing designs from a blank slate with minimal specifications while creating innovative solutions. Proficiency in using Inventor, SolidWorks, or Creo is essential (any one of these packages), whilst any hydraulic experience is a plus. Your responsibilities will also include conducting structural integrity analysis, FMEA, FEA, and load case testing.

This role is ideal for an R&D Engineer with experience in conceptual design who can seamlessly integrate mechanical systems with electronics technology. Candidates with backgrounds in defence, mining, or oil and gas are highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead mechanical design from the conceptual stage with minimal specifications.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, including electronics and embedded systems.
  • Create detailed CAD designs using Inventor and perform structural integrity analysis.
  • Conduct load case analysis, FMEA, FEA, and external testing.

Benefits:

  • Salary: £55,000 – £65,000
