Role: Solidworks Mechanical Design Engineer
Rate: up to £50 per hour, outside IR35
Location of work: Flexible hybrid. You can work largely remotely, but you should be flexible to come onsite when the task work requires
Contract length: 6 months initially
The Project: An electronics business who specialise in energy monitoring devices for the transport sector require a Mechanical Design Engineer for an initial 6 month contract which is highly likely to extend.
Due to a staff member being on long term sick a contractor is required to support the other Mechanical Engineer due to the amount of project work on. In this role you will be working on one big project which is at concept stage. You will also be required to work on multiple side projects to maintain and enhance existing products for customers.
The big project will require you to design a mass manufactured monitoring product which will be fitted along a wide range of railways across the UK. Although the product will be handheld in size it needs to be designed so it can be easily fitted and fixed to the railway line permanently and withstand harsh conditions e.g. shock, vibration, temperature.
To be suitable for this role you should be a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer who is confident using Solidworks. You should also have experience designing products that encloses electronic pcb’s, that uses plastic injection moulded parts, is mass manufactured and can perform in rugged environments.
This is an opportunity to work on exciting product developments which has interesting design challenges where you will work from concept through to manufacture.

- Designed products that enclose electronic pcb’s
- Rugged/ harsh environment design
Desirable experience (not essential):
- You have your own Solidworks CAD seat, ideally Solidworks 2023
- IEC 61010
