Position: Head of Quality

Salary: Up to £70,000

Location of office: Leeds


A Leeds based business who 3 years ago were turning over £6 million and are now generating £27 million of sales because of an intense focus on innovative R&D and brand, are looking to recruit a Group Product Quality Manager to the team. The business had a traditional focus on buying from the far east and then reselling to the UK market, however, the business 3 years ago employed one of the leaders of innovation in their sector as Technical Director. As a result of this strategic hire the business has registered 12 patents in 3 years and as a result are the leaders in their industry, with all the big-name brands using their tech enabled products. The products are now all IoT focussed and as a result enabling their customers to showcase UK designed best in class products that have the connectivity needed for the modern world.

The business continues to be ambitious and aspire to be £100 million turn over in 5 years and will need the expertise of a dedicated Group Product Quality Manager. The business prides itself in an honest, open culture and the business that does not agree with internal politics and has a working environment, which is fun, fast, and passionate. As the business has category leading brands, the culture is one of high performance, curiosity, and drive. Reporting to the Group Technical Director , the Group Quality Manager is responsible for developing, revising, and implementing quality standards and policies in the Group organisation. The role contributes to the profitability of the company by ensuring that all technical systems and processes on site, and all products produced, consistently conform with all relevant legislation and customer specifications.

The Group Quality Manager is responsible for nurturing positive relationships with both customers and third party suppliers and seeking at all times to identify opportunities and deliver solutions for continuous business improvement.

Must be able to implement systems that facilitate productivity, improve processes and guarantees efficiency

The business is looking for a Head of Quality and as a result you will have an extensive background in Quality, be it as a Quality Engineer or Head of Quality. The business is open to a Quality Manager who has come from any industry, they are more than happy to teach the product and technology, they just need to have a talented Head of Quality to work with.

Key responsibilities:

  • Experience in leading quality / mission assurance with a working knowledge of engineering development, production test and product acceptance
  • Manage customer complaints, overseeing appropriate investigations and necessary follow up with suppliers
  • Liaise closely with key customers in order to clearly understand and manage the customers’ expectations in terms of quality, design, manufacture and testing
  • Establishing a position as a key contact and promoter of quality excellence with our customers
  • Working closely with the Group Sourcing manager to lead the supplier Selection, Assessments, Quality System Audits and Approval of Suppliers
  • Improvement of Supplier and Internal Quality key performance indicators
  • Support an improved level of technical understanding across the business, promoting a quality culture through continuous improvement, communication and coaching
  • Establishing robust processes and procedures, preparing documents that outline quality requirements
  • Complete regular reports, reviews and management summaries including review and analysis of monthly KPI’s and statistical data
  • Advise management on quality implications in relation to new products or manufacturing processes

Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualified to degree level (at least 2:1) or Business related discipline
    External Auditor Qualification and Experience, including Report writing and follow-ups
  • Strong interpersonal and team working skills
  • The ability to work accurately and to tight deadlines
  • Experience of root cause analysis and problem solving methodology
  • Knowledgeable in National and International standards
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office specifically Word, Excel (Pivot tables, V-lookups, data analysis and graphical representation )and PowerPoint
  • Be driven and self-motivated
  • Ability to investigate
  • Availability to travel internationally when required
